I'm so excited about joining this blog. I'm a Buffy fan from way back and grew up along with her through high school. I related to Buffy a lot..... in fact Slayers in general. I grew up with a single mother who was working hard to keep a roof over our head. We always had enough and we were comfortable and grateful for all that we had, but my mom also has a chronic illness that would make life harder at times. She almost died three different times (that I was actually present for, this doesn't count the times I didn't know about until I got older). My Senior year of high school she almost died and spent two months in the hospital as I started my last year of high school. I was alone dealing with things that in the real world add up to demons as I helped my mom recover all the while keeping everything that was happening at home from my friends and telling my family that I was okay and didn't need help. I started watching Buffy that year and it helped me get through and be strong. While I love every season of Buffy I think it's Season five that really takes the place of honor in my DVD collection. The Body episode was very real to me and I loved the development of Buffy's character as well as her relationship with Spike. I prefer Spike over Angel. I think their relationship was more real while Angel and Buffy were more like puppy love (sickening, sappy, puppy love). Before any of you try to flog me for that, I must also say that I love Angel as well and own all seasons on DVD (very upset that it was cancelled when it was although I heard there was a comic showing what happens after the fight- something about hell in LA and Angel riding a dragon...... Buffy is also carried on in Season eight through comics if any of you weren't aware).
I had plans to showcase a few sweaters worn by Buffy starting with Season four on my own blog and then I found this blog. My first project is going to be either the yellow and orange overlay from the Thanksgiving episode or the hot pink boat mock neck sweater that I saw Buffy sporting (can't remember what episode). Can't wait to get started!

Hello everyone, my name is Jen. I'm a huge fan and a friend of mine told me about this KAL and I just had to join. I've begun knitting again as a form of meditation, to wind down and relax. I'm working on several projects right now, a few Harry Potter related, but I hope to do more an branch my crafting into another fandom I absolutely adore.

Now, the favorites... I can tell you my favorite season is 2, but those other favorites are a bit trickier. I am a raging Spike fan girl, have been since high school (way back in the 1900s, I graduate the same year the gang did). That said, I think Drusilla is my favorite character overall. I just love the crazy ones, what can I say. My favorite 'good guy' is probably Giles. As far as episode goes, thats even harder. It varies with my mood, but right now I'd have to say Normal Again from season 6.

That's all I can think of for now so I'll quit before I begin rambling :)

For those of you who have never seen the show, the stop-motion show Robot Chicken is produced by Mutant Enemy, Inc. Which we all know as.... right, the "Grr, argh" at the end of our beloved Buffy. Well they can never leave well enough alone so...

Also, Sarah is a frequent guest voice on the show. Of course they couldn't resist doing a Buffy parody...

Hi everyone!

I'm very excited to be part of this KAL! BTVS is my favorite show of all time, and so I love that I can combine my new love of knitting with my favorite show!

Choosing a favorite episode is really hard. It might be "Tabula Rasa" from Season 6. That's the one where Willow tries to cast a spell to make Buffy & Tara lose part of their memory, but then everyone forgets who they are. Spike believes his name is Randy, and that he's Giles' son, Buffy decides her name is Joan, everyone calls Xander "Alex", etc. So funny. Yet it still ends with that BTVS heartbreak Joss is known to do so well.

I chose to be in the Scoobies group - I really believe in working for good & for change, but I usually like to support the movement rather than head it up. For example, I've been out on the campaign trail for the next Presidential election, but I would never want to be President. You know?

I just started knitting, I've completed a scarf so far, and am now working on my first pair of socks and an afghan. I also created a knitting journal to record my projects. I am primarily a scrapbooker, so that of course was a necessity!

Pink Raglan

I've recently rewatched seasons 1 through 4, and I finished knitting the torso of my current WIP last night as I started on season 5. This is a top down raglan in merino for my daughter, who is 5 but knows all the lyrics to Once More With Feeling and will sing them while acting out the scenes :D. She's been doing that for two years. I watched loads of Buffy during my pregnancy to cheer her up and I think maybe that made her a fan before she was even born.

Willow Hat is Done!

My Willow hat is done!

The main difference is that the store I went to didn't have a good pink. So, I just used a pink I already had.

And it's the perfect weather to wear it! Because Sunnydale in winter is equivalent to Illinois in summer.

However, Willow's sense of fashion may not be the best in this situation. "How come you didn't tell me I look like a crazy birthday cake?" She was talking about a shirt at this point, but I think the quote applies to hats too.

I'm in the middle of planning phase for my new projekt: the Initiative Sweater Spike wore sometimes in season four (I think he'd got it from Xander). After hours and hours surfing through the Net I found this: Seamless Hybrid.
The explanation to the sweater is really excellent so I don't want to buy the book where the pattern is to find; I just made a little knitting piece as a test for this neat shoulder seam (it's easier as I thought):

My name is Kristy and I'm excited to be joining this KAL--thanks for the invite! I'm a huge Buffy fan and can still remember watching the pilot episode on TV, and at the end begging the TV gods to let it stay on air. I'm actually so crazy about the show I even named my dog Buffy.

My favorite character has to be Xander because he's just so darn loveable. Favorite episode...That's a tough one. I loved the entire third season but especially the season finale--I think it was because I really wanted to see my own high school blown up.

Right now I'm working on my first pair of socks--halfway through the second pair and looking forward to starting a new set. I saw the BTVS sock yarn and will be visiting the site right after this post! I'm excited to pick out my first Buffy project and am looking forward to this KAL--I needed another excuse to start watching the series again :)

Costco which had Seasons 5-7 for $16.99 each. And they are the Collector's Edition (which I haven't explored what that means yet). OMG! So, what I am doing right now is watching Season 4 marathon with DH. Granted they didn't have Season 4, so we HAD to buy 4 so we can start the marathon madness.

We finished disc 1 last night, and in the middle of Disc 2. I love all the Buffy inspired knits!

Tara's Stole is done!

And it only took me... about 4 months! Needless to say I've watched all of the seasons of Buffy by now, and will probably watch them all again in the near future. Here's a shot of me wearing it, while attempting to take a picture in a mirror...
I was going for something blue, because I thought Tara looked fantastic in blue (and it's my favorite color), but instead it turned out kind of grayish purple. I guess I'll buy more dye next time (if there is a next time). I also wanted it too look natural and organic, with the waviness of the variegated lace flowing into the solid leafy/spidery clusters. I'm not sure that I got exactly what I envisioned, but I'm happy with it and it's very warm and soft. Currently on the needles: another lace stole! This one's a gift for a sister-in-law who is a lot like Buffy in her own way - she doesn't take any ...uh.... guff from anyone, so I guess it's Buffy-related!

I'm on the toe of my first Faith sock. I'm using White Oak Studio's TV Yarn (love it) in Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the Bellatrix pattern from socktopia.net. The dye job on this is fantastic. The yarn doesn't pool at all. The pattern screams Faith and I'm so glad that everything is working out in my knitting like it is in my head.

Warm salutations to the Buffy KAL crowd. I wanted to introduce myself, I am Wierdlings.

Knit surfing the other night I came upon your KAL and could not wait to ask to see if I could join. There are some great projects and patterns that you have developed and are knitting, its truly inspiring.

I wanted to be in the 'Vampire' group due to an unrequited love for Spike. ::le sigh:: Nuff said.

I am currently working on a handbag for my sister, which once it is finished, I hope to post to the group once it has been debugged a bit. Rich dark purple 'Cleaves' from Knitty.com and pair of hot pink/green socks, colorway 'Sour Cherries' from Stone Barn Fibers for the Summer of Socks 2007 KAL.

I had started my Buffy socks with a pattern in my head. I then found this pattern Bellatrix Socks. I hadn't gotten far into the sock so I was able to rip out and restart. I fully love this yarn. The shop owner of White Oak Studio is great with communication.

I've Come Up With a Buffyesque Name for the Shawl...

Here is the unblocked but pinned preview of the first half of the shawl that will be seamed at the center back. If I had not mentioned this before, it is not nearly so pink-looking. It is a dark, dusty purple with navy blue, and a hint of the pink here and there. My camera has a pink fetish I think... See my blog in the current and previous post immediate to the current for further details on the shawl.

Looking at the photo, remembering that there will be two identical points when complete, may I present the what will be the Double-Staked Shawl. Just the sort of thing that you would want to wear on a late night patrol in the cemetery, whether you are a witch or a scoobie, maybe not so much as a slayer as it might be cumbersome.

These didn't start out as a Buffy KAL project, but I realized they were perfect after I saw Bezzie's "Falling out of Love" socks. My socks use the the same colorway, a fantastic blood-red well-suited to vampires (or even slayers, demons, or witches).

I will leave the interpretation of the ~~zig-zag~~ jagged motif to imagination. : )

Why does Willow wear hats anyway? It's Sunnydale. Season Three was the first and only time it snowed in Sunnydale. It does fit her personality, but it doen't make sense.

So for my next Buffy KAL project I decided to do some "Falling Out of Love Socks."

They're based on the Falling In Love socks from Magknits. However, I don't do toe-ups, so the hearts are backwards on my socks. Yes, it's kind of a stretch.

Honestly, the blood red of these socks just screamed vampire to me and I wanted to cast on something to tie to this KAL. The color is actually called "Mustang Sally" from STR that Singing Scoobie Amy was sweet enough to send me last year.

I joined the Buffy KAL about a week-ish ago, and I am a bit tardy in my introdution post. I live in Overland Park, Kansas, married, no kids, and 40. I love all things related to Buffy (the television version, not so much the movie). My favorite episodes, although I enjoy them all, are from the seasons where Angel is still part of the gang. Spike is a hotty for sure, but Angel is the one I always hoped Buffy would end up with...

Buffy is my favorite of the characters, but I am not the leader type. I enjoy all the characters, but Willow is probably my next favorite after Buffy. She is smart, soft spoken, funny, and deadly with the magicks. I have always loved all things magic since I was a child, so the witches' category was a natural fit for me.

As for what's OTN, I am working on a shawlette that was pictured in the Spring edition of Interweave Knits on page 82. I think they call it the "Clementine Shawlette", but I am looking for a way to link this to the show. Any ideas? I am using fingering weight for the shawl as I pretty much hate knitting with lace weight yarns. The yarn is Trekking XXL, and it is a dark, dusty purple with navy blue, and a little bit of rosy tones. See my blog for photos of last week's progress. However, it is not nearly so pink as the camera shows - it is much more purple.

Just a Hello and a thank you

Hi,
I joined about five minutes ago. I am a knitting grad student who is a tiny bit obsessed with Buffy. Three years ago, I made different friends buy me the different seasons I was missing. I have a very hard time pining down just one episode for my favorite. Each season had some brilliant writing and acting for example Hush, Something Blue, Once More with Feeling, Lies my Parents Told Me etc. My favorite season is season 2 and I am sentimentally attached to Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest. They reminded me why I watched the show weekly, and they got me to need the entire series.
This is getting long. The reason I joined the Slayer, I couldn't think what group I did belong to. I liked the idea of being part a group that gives power to women indiscriminately and being in the same group as Buffy and Faith is neat. We will ignore Kennedy. As for what is on the needles some socks that I need to finish so I can cast on for my Buffy Socks. Alll right I'm ending my babble now.

I chose to be a vampire for this. I like vampires, and think that they're the most interesting group.

Blue Clam Cult? More like Purple Clam Cult...

So here's the result of last weekend's dye job, and it didn't turn out blue!
It's purple! Could someone please explain how a pale blue yarn and royal blue dye end up making a light greyish purple dyed yarn? I followed the instructions... Anyways, I'm not too annoyed or upset by this because the color intensity is about right, and it is a very close match to a color already present in the handpaint I'm trying to coordinate with. And the color turned out extremely even too, so it's all good.
Here's the progress shot of the Tara Stole. I'm quite pleased with it, and at this rate, I should be done in a month or two! The gift knitting is competing with this for my knitting time...

Being a Watcher

Well, I haven't posted much here for a while but I am doing the watcher thing. After I finished my finals last month I took a vacation and I also got to start catching up with the rest of you in Buffy watching. I am officially into season three and very happy remembering things I'd forgotten. Although I'd earlier in this KAL had a dilemma choosing a project, I've since hit upon the awesome Spiral Boot Socks by Veronik Avery from the Summer 07 IK. I'm doing them in the soft sea wool recommended and wow! It is super soft yarn. I'll post a pic soon, I'm in the first decrease repeat of the first sock so not much to show yet.

Blue Clam Cult? I think that's the key...

I've made some progress on the Tara Stole...
I knitted most of the border on the train to and from Berlin. I'm quite happy with it, I like the way the handpainted yarn, Hand Maiden 4 ply Silk Cashmere, makes wavy patterns with this lace, the Old Spanish Lace Border, which I dug out of one of my numerous stitch libraries. After many tries, I found a stitch pattern I'm happy with, an alternating small and large bead stitch, but the color isn't quite right. So sometime this week, I'll rip back to my lifeline separating the border from the main body, put the yarn into hanks, and hand dye it a darker shade of blue. It'll probably be a bit mottled because I don't really have the equipment for dyeing, so I'll be using a cool water dye (around 40 deg. C) and a bucket. If the colorway works out well, I'll name it the Blue Clam Cult, just to bring it in with Buffy a little more! (That is, if naming it after one of the characters isn't enough!) That line in season 7 always makes my husband laugh, and maybe using it in a process which will make a huge mess will cheer him up a bit too.

I just watched "Band Candy" from Season Three, and I think that's one of the best lines in the episode.

I'm working on the sort-of-Caliometry (however it's spelled), very slowly. It's SWTC Twize in colorway Twing (100% bamboo) and I'm knitting it up on US 6 needles. I really like the little lace in the center, but it's not the best for Buffy-watching. I've got a stockinette-in-the-round tank top as well, and that's definitely seeing more knitting action as I blaze through the episodes.

And as it's super warm tonight, I think I'm going to have a beer, knit, and watch an episode or two until bedtime.

My name is Monica, from Calling on Kahlo, and I have been a Buffy fan since day one. In fact, I was in college hanging out one night when the pilot aired and I thought it was brilliant. I couldn't stop watching the show. At the time, I watched Xena and thought nothing could top it, and I was wrong. I love Joss Whedon's writing, the characters he creates, the plot twists, and obviously his humor.

Season 2 I was living in my own apartment and couldn't afford a tv so I ran to my friend's every Tuesday night and forced them to watch the show. Of course they got hooked. I got my mom hooked. When I got married, I got my husband hooked. I feel a little sad because I am now having problems finding a tv show that meets up to my high standards. Oh Joss where are you? The t-shirt is available here.

Anyways, I am a Watcher. While I do think I have abilities to be a witch, I think I am more of an advisor, researcher, ahem a geek. Lots of books, lots of useless trivia, and kinda clumsy.

My favorite shows would be Hush, Once More with Feeling, ... I love so many of them. We should also list our favorite one liners like the time I believe Season 2 when Buffy went to the frat party

"Willow Rosenberg (to Giles): And you never let her do anything except work and patrol. And I know she's the Chosen One, but you're killing her with the pressure. I'm happy to report that my Druscilla-inspired capelet is finally done! It took me a long time to finish, because I ran out of yarn for the collar, so I had to do some figuring to find another cable that would work. The pattern is the Lace and Cable Capelet from Vogue Knitting Holiday 2006, pattern 4, and the yarns are Kolibri purchased from a tent in my town's Christmas Market (the handpainted red wool) and Rowan Yorkshire Tweed. Project details are posted on my blog. As soon as this was on the blocking board, I cast on for my next Buffy-related project.

This will be a rectangular lace shawl, original pattern. This yarn is Handmaiden 4 Ply Silk Cashmere, and I think Tara would definitely wear these colors, handpainted yarns, and lace shawls. I recall that she wore a sweater twice in season 4 that was knit from handpainted or variegated yarn in a brown colorway. She also wore a blue lace top in season 5, episode Older and Faraway. Anyways, it dosen't look like much now, but I'll post more pictures when you can actually make out the lace pattern.

Hi. I'm not gone. I'm working on my first sweater ever (the Bella Blouse in blue; perhaps an Anya garment, I don't know). It will be forever and three days before I can post another finished project pic. And I'm already to the end of season two.

In the meantime, I had some fun with Kool-Aid dyeing. Eventually, I'm going to use these to teach myself Fair Isle. I'll need another hank, though, in another color. (More info on my blog.) Which color do you think I should use?

I think I see a theme for my socks for this KAL. I excitedly pulled out of my stash some Moda Dea Sassy Stripes in the colorway Crush. Yay! Crush is a Season 5 episode! Then as I was looking , I realized it was a red colorway. Red like the Season 2 case. So, I guess these are my Buffy Season Two Crush socks. (I like names for my socks, can you tell?) This trend may end though, as I don't have any green sock yarn for season 3.

Someone asked in the comments about the Buffy Sing-Along. I haven't been to one, but am going in just two weeks!! The Sing-Along is an event at a movie theater, where the musical episode of Buffy is projected onto the big screen, along with subtitles--and everyone gets to sing along. Plus they sell grab bags with fun items like plastic vampire teeth, etc.

Hi Everyone! Winggleam here aka Suzette or Suz... I’m looking forward to creating/working on a lot of Buffy influenced knitting projects… Now, because most of my Buffy Seasons are on video, my video player will love me again!

I’ve been a Buffy viewer from the beginning – it was difficult keeping up though when I moved from Canada to the UK in 2000… the BBC were right bastards in being consistent (they prefer to show Snooker Championships)

As a knitter I was taught about 10ish years ago (mostly scarves and rectangles folded to make purses and handbags) things got serious 6 months ago, while recovering from a major operation… I managed to knit my first pair of socks (after the third attempt) in March.

For this knit along, I was split between being a Watcher or being Vampire... I choose Vampire because I’m kind of a Vampire geek - also my husband is currently running a Dark Ages Vampire Role Playing Game at the mo… let’s not get into that…

Hi! I was so excited to find this KAL. I've been a Buffy/Joss fan for awhile now. I was always into vampire-y things as I teenager, but I refused to watch the show because of the name (so foolish, I know). About 8 years ago my brother began to educate myself, my significant other & our mother. We would get together every Friday night while his first child was a baby & watch many episodes & discuss them. Those are very good memories. The whole family gathered together (2 couples, 2 children & mom) to watch the historic musical episode! Anyway, we were lucky enough to watch the rest of the series, as well as Angel (oh, how I mourn that demise) while they were still on the air. You think I would have learned my lesson once Firefly came on, but alas I refused to watch anything to do with a "western" and only got into Firefly about 3 years ago. Now I completely trust Joss & I only have to hear his name to jump on board. Please give this man another show!

Whew, ok. My favorite episodes would probably be Once More With Feeling, Tabula Rosa, Fool for Love, Hush, The Body, and others that I really cannot think of right now. I've been a self-taught knitter for 2 1/2 years now & I'm excited to get more into fandom knitting. So far I've only done a Jayne hat & a Harry Potter beret. I'd like to complete a bunch of Buffy projects as well as some kind of Tardis someday. Right now I'm working on a baby blanket, a cozy cardigan the early Willow might wear, and soon I'm casting on for Knitty's Isabella, which really looks to me like something Anya might wear. I'm thinking of Mr. Pointy for my first Buffy project. Although I've always wanted to make the Poster Boy bag from Stitch 'n Bitch with Spike. Maybe it's time to learn some colorwork!

I put myself in the Slayer group because I'd love to be a badass like Buffy & after watching an episode I couldn't stop myself from kicking & punching my way around the room. My favorite character is Spike. There are millions of reasons, but my number one is that he was always honest & true to himself & nobody else could really say that. I have a standup Spike in my living room who wears a knit cap during the Winter and has been known to model scarves for me. My boyfriend & I are currently re-watching all the episodes (currently in season 4) and I look forward to watching the clothing and props with a new knitterly eye!

I'm can't wait to see everyone's inspired projects & get to know other Buffy fans! (Sorry to be so long-winded)

And I'm still working on the headband, but I had to rip out about 10 rows due to errors. They have nothing to do with watching Buffy while trying to knit a simple lace pattern. Nothing at all. Nope.

Ok, I think I might be a little behind (or am I ahead? I don't know. lol), but I'm working my way through Season 2. I watched Halloween through The Dark Age while I was spinning. You know, the Halloween episode is where you first see Giles, a.k.a. Ripper, show a tough, darker side. I don't know, but something about finding out that there's a bad a** lurking underneath all that tweed just gives me the shivers! LOL Like, Captain Jack Sparrow shivers. It's been so long since I've watched these episodes and I'm really enjoying discovering all the characters again. Here's an updated picture on the gigantic scarf:

It's coming along, but I had to put it on a back burner while I finish up my spinning "homework". Three bobbins full so that I can learn how to ply at my next class. Almost there.

Hi I'm Chris and I'm a Buffy/Angel/Firefly fan. I found this KAL through Bezzie's blog (love the Freebasing Granny Sweater) and thought about joining for a while. I finally decided I had to join because I've been itching to watch my Buffy DVDs again.

I self identified as a Witch because, although I'm not Pagan, feel a deep connection with nature and celebrate the seasons in my own way as they come and go.

I've been knitting & crocheting since I was a small child. I'm currently in a sock frenzy and need to knit something other than socks and soon. I'm full of Buffy-esque ideas and will be casting on with yarn that speaks to me while at Maryland S&W. Or I'll keep working on a a big comfy sweater like Willow is frequently seen in (but not pink with daisy's), that I put down a couple months ago.

Name: Rupert Giles
Born: 1954 in London, England

Backstory:

Told of his destiny to become a Watcher at the age of ten, Giles rebelled. He dropped out of Oxford University and began abusing the dark arts. Seeking cheap highs, he and his friends summoned Eyghon, a grotesque demon that possessed the body of unconscious or dead persons nearby. It wasn’t until one of the group was killed during a possession that he accepted his destiny and gave up the dark arts in order to focus on his training as a Watcher.

Hi, I'm Ines from Germany. I'm a fan of BtVS since Season 5 was showed in german TV. Later I bought the former seasons to watch them too. The most impressive character for me is Spike (who else :)), and 2004 I've had the pleasure to meet James Marsters in Berlin - he was there with the Band Ghost of the Robot for a concert and a Convention with Question and Answer session. He ist a very nice guy with a impressive presence, and during the autograph session he was nearly shy - very cute!
Some weeks ago I found this blog and was surprised and delighted; now I can connect my knitting with the Buffyverse. Of course I knitted the most time while watching Buffy or Angel, but until now this both things were two different shoes. I never had access to WB - or UPN - so I got in on Buffy late, after it was syndicated by FX, probably about the time Season 5 was airing in real time. 2000? My five favorite episodes, based on how many time I've re-watched them:

Xander Sweater

So I sort of cheated and cast this on before we decided that we were going to knit something for each season. This is actually a sweater based on a sweater Xander was wearing in Season 3, Episode 20, Graduation Day (Part 1).

I was never able to find a really good picture of it online just Buffy reviewers who said:

"I'm horribly riveted by Xander's sweater, which appears to be made of two mismatched halves cobbled together in the dark by a blind, loopy grandma."

So I just sorta made it up. Oh and I made it kid-sized for my little Scoobie in training.

As you can see from the side view I think I nailed the "cobbled together" look just fine.

When we get to Season 3--keep your eye out for the real sweater!

I got into Buffy half-way through my undergraduate - at the time Buffy season 4 was on the air. I knew about the show, but I thought the movie, which I saw in the theater, was super lame. I had a regular study buddy who came over to my house once every week during the semester the same night Buffy was on, and when we were done our homework, she would watch Buffy with my flatmate. Not wanting to be left out, I would sort of watch it, but then I really got into it. Buffy and friends had just started college, were making new friends, trying to keep their non-college attending friends in the gang, there were the boy-troubles and experimentation, Buffy falling for her TA (I married one of mine!), there was a lot I could relate to in that season, not to mention the fight scenes - I was also studying Tae Kwon Do at the time. So I blame my flatmate and study buddy for getting me into Buffy.

On the knitting front, I'm kind of bored with the lace and cables capelet, but if I knit 5 rows every night, I should be done... in about a month. I'm also plannning my next project, the Shetland Triangle Shawl from Wrap Style. There's a nice version of it here.
My yarn will be some Hand Maiden 4 ply Silk Cashmere.
This colorway reminds me of something Tara would wear, I think she's a handpaint kind of girl. I don't recall seeing her in a shawl or wrap, but I haven't gotten past season 3 yet, so I'll have to keep an eye out for it. I do think that she would have worn one if the costume designers had thought of it though.

I was never interested in Buffy, but then I went to Norway to study abroad. After swimming in the lake one evening with my new-found Norwegian friend Linn, she insisted we hurry back to watch Buffy. I wasn't really interested, but after my shower I went to her room to be social. It was the episode A New Man, since Season 4 was on in Norway (I think it was Season 6 in the US).

I told my boyfriend-at-the-time that I had watched it and it was good and he thought I was nuts. I started watching Season 1 with my Norwegian friends, and by the time I got back to the US the BF was hooked on Buffy too. So hooked, in fact, that we caught up to TV during the 7th season! We used to watch four or more episodes a day on the weekends.

Buffy Backstory

I didn’t start out as a fan of Buffy. In fact, I was strongly against the show. I had absolutely NO interest in it when it first came out, or even when the reruns were showing.

I thought it was dumb.

Overacted.

And whenever I saw my mom watching the reruns I would always ask “So how many times does she die in THIS episode?”

I thought that Willow made Tara because she couldn’t get anyone to like her and, since Xander looks freakishly like one of my Ex’s in season 5 and 6 (when he got a little heavier) I had a million reasons to boycott the show. Plus… I’d seen the movie.

Then a co-worker started telling me about the different plots. About the different back stories and stuff. And she showed up dressed like Spike for Halloween one year. Short bleached hair and everything. It was freaky. She loaned me the DVDs and halfway through season 1 I was hooked.

'Tis the obligatory meet-n-greet post.

Hello!

I saw the link to this fine KAL on ... someone's blog (sorry!) and thought "What a great idea!" I was drawn to it because, as has been said before by finer women than myself, I love knitting and Buffy and the whole pointy stick/pointy stick thing really appealed.

Yes.

I wanted to be in the slayer group because I have this ambition to be slayer-ish and tough and strong and do mad kung-fu, although I'm nowhere near any of that. It was tough to choose between being a slayer and being a witch or a scoobie.

Buffy and I became close after my then-boyfriend-now-husband showed me "The Wish" and said "But this isn't really like the rest of the show." And I thought, "Well, show me the rest of the show!" and of course I loved it. Favorite episode ... [thinking] ... I love them all, but really love "The Body" and "The Gift" and any episode that has the gang out of their normal comfort zone. "Halloween," "Fear Itself," "Superstar," and "Tabula Rasa" come to mind.

Oh, and I have a heck of a crush on Spike.

I'm currently working on a headband, sort of a summer version of Calorimetry, lace-ish and of bamboo. Naturally I don't have a photo. I hope to have one on my blog (and here, of course) soon.

I joined the vamp group mostly because it looks lonely and also because vamp boys are cute. Yeah... Oh, and I sort of want to be goth but not enough to actually do it.

Hmm... my favorite episodes are Lovers Walk and Something Blue and I'm sure many more but that's what comes to mind right away. Oh, and Once More With Feeling, of course. And that one where Anya speaks Swedish, and the one where Spike sings the Ramones on the stakeout... OK, I'll stop there.

I'm ivanovaknits, the newest watcher in the ranks. I also adore Buffy, knitting, knitting while watching Buffy, just like the rest of you! I chose the watcher group because I'm nerdy and bookish, recently completed my doctorate and am watching graduate students (I'm doing my post-doc), and I adore all things tweed. I drink tea at three, gin and tonic in the evenings, and studied martial arts for several years although I have never been in a real fight in my life, and never plan to be. I guess that makes me kind-of watcher-ish!

Faourite episode.... there's so many to choose from! I love any episode that Druscilla is in because I LOVE her costumes, but I think my absolute favourites are the musical episode, and the season finale. My current knitting project was cast-on when I re-watched season one a couple of months ago, the Lace and Cables Capelet from Vogue Knitting Holiday 2006. I'm using a locally purchased mystery wool in a red handpainted colorway for the lace section, and some black Rowan Yorkshire Tweed (maybe the color is 'Darkly' but I don't remember) for the cabled shoulder and collar.
I think it looks rather Druscilla-esqe. If only I had her wardrobe... Well I'm off to watch some more season 3 before the DH gets tired and wants to go to bed... he hates it when I get too far ahead and he loses track of the plot.

I watched the first two Season 1 DVDs this weekend. I realized that the socks I was finishing up were a perfect match for the Sunnydale school colors. Perhaps Xander would have worn these on Spirit Day? I think it's more likely that Giles would have had something like this in his stash of handknit socks.

Hi all! It's so cool to find a group that loves knitting and Buffy. I signed up under the Witches group because I loved watching Willow's transformation and growth. I watch my dvd's when I can (the vamps scare the little ones), so it's slow going through the seasons. Way too many favorite episodes to try to list them all. lol I've got a garter stitch scarf that I'm knitting for a friend and it really reminds me of something Giles would wear. I (re-)finished those long, fingerless gloves I've been working on. They're essentially a pair of modified Fetching, with six more rows of cables on the underside of the arm and three columns of eyelets on the top side. (Yes, I got permission from the designer.) I used Knitpicks Shine Worsted, Ebony, with #6 dpn.

They aren't really my style, but I think they suit my friend who asked for them. They're also rather Drusilla-ish, yes? (Oh, and for the record, I was watching "The Puppet" when I finished them.)

I put the finishing touches on those fingerless gloves I've been working on forever. I tucked in all the loose ends. I held it up proudly, only to realize (at the end of "Never Kill a Boy on the First Date")...

I made two right gloves.

I think I sat there for five minutes trying to move the thumb over by use of emphatic gesture.

It did not work.

I have unraveled. Perhaps in more ways than one.

I didn't mention in my other post what my favorite episode is. I'm gonna have to go with "Restless," the dream episode at the end of season 4. It's beautifully done, and it does an amazing job at evoking the uncertainty of transitioning into adulthood.

I'm here, and I'm a Scooby!

This is so fun! And kudos to Just a Knit Wit for starting the whole thing. After much, much, much deliberation, I decided my first Buffy project would be the satchel, probably in black. I'm hoping to get my knitting goddess friend Deb to teach me how to needle felt, so I can add WWBD in red gothic letters after the bag is felted. The Buffy Sing-Along is coming to my city in June, so I'd like to finish the satchel and a Mr. Pointy by then. Maybe even a Mr. Gordo too.

Another introductory post here. I'm Bev, and I blog here. I'm very psyched for this group and I like the looser approach to choosing items to knit than a lot of other KAL's out there. Normally, I knit socks and lots of them. They are my very favorite thing to knit. Otherwise I like ethnic designs and stranded color work.

I chose to be in the watcher group. Well, much like Giles, it's my destiny (;>). In my non-knitting life I'm a graduate student and I study religion. So, as an academic, it's my job to deal with lots of esoteric and strange information. Also, like any good watcher, I actually can read several obscure and ancient languages. Go ahead, ask me anything - if I don't have the answer, I know the book you can find it in.

It's very hard for me to choose a favorite episode. I love season three and I'd argue that was the best of the series. However, I love a lot of episodes for different reasons. I was a big fan of Faith and her story lines, as well as Willow and her story lines. However, I think the best for me was Revelations, when Faith's new watcher,Gwendolen Post, comes because you learn a lot about the character of the gang, Buffy's vulnerabilities and strengths, and good old fashion supernatural activity. In my mind, that episode has all the good stuff Joss Whedon is known for writing - witty dialog, compelling drama, and nuanced relationships. I think my second favorite is The Prom, because I'm a softy and it's nice to see Buffy's hard work appreciated. I admit it, that episode always makes me cry! Others high on my list include Hush, The Gift, Selfless, Passion, and Innocence.

I have two papers left to write this semester (no final exams in grad school) and then I'm going to begin re-watching the series with the rest of you. If I start now I will get completely sidetracked. In the meantime, I've been inspired by thinking about the "what episode is your favorite?" question to think that maybe I'd like to find something Gwendolen Post-like to knit first. I'm open to suggestions from everybody because the first instinct I have is a straight-laced school-marmish skirt, but YIKES, all that stockinette - no way!

I thought I'd share a bit of my Buffy/knitting overlap. A few years ago my husband bought me a Buffy lunchbox. I had it sitting on a shelf for a long time but I could never find a good use for it:

I thought I would weigh in on the Buffy comic since a few people have asked what I thought of it. So far it's fun. Certainly I love that Joss is writing the first 6 issues, all the characters seem so much more authentic than when someone else is writing them. The story hasn't really caught me yet but I know that Joss can be a bit of a slow builder so I have high hopes that it's going to get much more enthralling soon!

Hi, I'm Elizabeth, and I've asked to be in the Slayer category because I've always wanted to execute the perfect roundhouse kick. In lieu of martial arts, though, I'll be working on a pair of fingerless gloves for a friend who bought the yarn and paid me, like, two months ago, and I feel really bad that I haven't finished yet. I have one glove completed, and I'm one inch into the second.

I'm signing up under the Watcher group! My goal is to knit while viewing my way through the entire series and I started tonight with Season One, Episode one. My first project is a pair of bed socks that need finishing and I strongly suspect that there will be more socks in the future, which seems like a very Watcherly thing to do-make useful objects. To that end I also plan to make Mr. Pointy. I'll post pictures next time I post.

Thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Kelly, or Just A Knit Wit on my blog.

I started the KAL after Amy at Knit Think asked for ideas to knit for her Buffy Sing Along. So many people came up with so many ideas that it just HAD to happen.

I put myself into the Watchers group because Giles is dead sexy. And I'm just as in love with my books as he is with his.

My favorite episode... hmm... I'd have to say it's the one where Cordelia wishes that Buffy never went to Sunnydale. I love the episodes where the characters are other than what they usually are.

My favorite character is Spike. I love him when he's evil. He's still cool when he gets ~~neutered~~ the chip in his head, but evil... woo baby!

Right now I'm knitting a pair of Jay Walkers (my first pair!)

The colors remind me of something that Willow would have worn in Season one. Very unmatchy and brite.

this time from Vampire Harriet (otherwise known as limedragon). : ) I actually couldn't decide which group I belonged to, Witches or Vampires. I decided the KAL needed at least one good vamp, no?

I haven't seen the show since it went off the air. I stopped by Blockbuster and they didn't have any available at all (?!?), but luckily the library has two sets of the first season (but with multiple holds). I hope to have the DVDs by the end of the month.

Perhaps a Calorimetry or a Mr. Gordo? I'm not sure yet what I'll knit. Also, I have a sock pattern percolating that I've been meaning to chart--it might be a good fit with this KAL, so that will give me incentive to write up the details.

Thanks Nancy for posting about Blood Ties. I had seen the commercials but forgot all about it. It's now scheduled on my TiVo, and I can't wait to watch.
